A hobby user who never vists SU forums simply because not using SU that often and it isn't part of his daily life won't be able to vote on that he was using Make while every Pro user would see the poll and cast his vote, so that poll doesn't really mean anything. Good luck trying them to cough up some money.Īs for putting up the poll on SU forums, that'd be the place where major SU users visit on a regular basis and with that it is very likely that the poll results will be skewed. Now instead of having legal free users that were contemplating going for a mid range license, they'll have illegal users of Pro.

I can pretty much predict that having one single desktop product in the highest price range that is actually having the full set of features will put that one version will put said version on the map for being a ripe target for piracy.
In this case squeezing harder will only make more slip out between the fingers. Trimble severely lacking invention and forward thinking while they excel at restrictions and trying to squeeze out money from people that don't have money just skills. With these increasingly scummy moves they've done they achieved the goal of that some of the already pro users who now rely on the workflow for their livelihood pay up, but also alienated the hobby users, eliminated a good chunk of good will and made people in between hobby and pro users to backpedal from thinking about making the jump from a free product to a licensed product, simply because they can see the way Trimble treats even the pro users that - as they said - generate the revenue. Using 3D models, designers can make more informed decisions, communicate project details, and share ideas with colleagues and customers to reach a common goal. SketchUp is easy and intuitive, allowing anyone to model in 3D quickly and accurately. They essentially screwed over the non-professional part of the user base that might've not generated revenue for them with Make, but every artwork project done by them was free advertisement for SU, every positive remark and review about the useful nature of Make and its parent company helped to cultivate and pull in paying customers. SketchUp Pro is 3D modeling software for professionals. Trimble knew perfectly well that they need to generate revenue when they bought SU but instead of doing it with incentivizing the legal way they took away the freely available parts and "generously" gave back the mangled remains after ripping out most of what made Make great fun for hobby users.
The way it is described that they "had to do something" and "must generate revenue" as if that'd be a news to them. I'm not sure why but this video made me feel as if Trimble would be having a leadership that was on the level of some innocent child that didn't knew what they were getting into and therefore I should feel sorry for them.
